Have you ever told someone you’d pray for them, only to get distracted and completely forget? Or sat down to pray and suddenly remembered everything on your to-do list?
Oh, friend, I think we’ve all been there!
Prayer is one of the greatest privileges we have as believers, yet sometimes we struggle to make it part of our everyday lives. That’s why I invited my sweet friends Amber and Melissa to pull up a chair at The Prayer Table. We talked about the distractions, the struggles, and the beautiful invitation we have to bring every part of our lives before the Lord.
One thing Amber shared really stuck with me. Instead of telling someone she’ll pray for them, she’s learning to stop and pray with them right then and there. Melissa reminded us how important thanksgiving is, even when life feels heavy. And we talked about the comfort of Romans 8:26, which reminds us that when we don’t know what to pray, the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.
So grab your coffee, friend. Let’s spend a little time with the Lord.
Listen to The Prayer Table: Prayer in Everyday Life
A Little Time at The Prayer Table
I want to share a portion of The Prayer Table book with you today. This study was created to help women open their Bibles and intentionally pray over the different areas of their lives. Each section brings us back to Scripture and gives us a place to begin when we’re struggling to find the words.
Today, we’re going to spend some time praying over our homes. And before you start, I want you to know that you don’t need a perfectly quiet house, a beautiful prayer journal, or an uninterrupted hour. Just bring your Bible and a willing heart.
Praying Over Our Schedules
Read Psalm 90:12.
Our days fill up quickly, don’t they? Between family responsibilities, appointments, work, and the needs of the people we love, sometimes we find ourselves carrying more than the Lord ever asked us to carry.
Psalm 90:12 reminds us to number our days so that we may gain a heart of wisdom. And friend, sometimes we need that wisdom simply to know what deserves our yes and what needs our no.
Let’s pray.
Father, thank You for the time You’ve given me. You know every responsibility on my calendar and every burden I’ve been carrying. Give me wisdom to recognize what You’ve entrusted to me in this season. Show me where I’ve been striving, where I’ve allowed pressure to guide my decisions, and where I need to trust You more. Teach me to use my days faithfully. Amen.
Take a moment here. Is there something on your calendar that has been weighing heavily on your heart? Bring that specific thing before the Lord.
Praying Over the Atmosphere of Our Homes
Read Proverbs 24:3.
Our homes are shaped by so much more than the schedules we keep. They’re shaped by our attitudes, conversations, responses, and the things we allow to influence our hearts.
Maybe your home has felt a little tense lately. Maybe everyone is tired, distracted, or struggling through a difficult season. Or perhaps you’re simply longing for more peace and connection within your family.
Proverbs 24:3 reminds us that a house is built through wisdom and established through understanding. What a wonderful reminder that we need the Lord’s wisdom in the ordinary moments of family life.
Let’s pray.
Lord, You know every heart inside my home. You see the things we’re celebrating and the burdens we’re carrying. I ask You to cultivate peace, patience, understanding, and grace within these walls. Where there’s tension, bring reconciliation. Where there’s exhaustion, give us rest. Where there’s bitterness or unforgiveness, soften our hearts. Help us build a home that honors You. Amen.
Now, think about the people who live in your home. Spend a few moments praying for each of them by name. Ask the Lord to meet their individual needs and draw their hearts closer to Him.
Praying Over Our Words and Tone
Read Colossians 4:6.
Whew, this one gets me!
Have you ever noticed how easy it is to be patient with everyone outside your home, only to give your family the most exhausted version of yourself?
Our words often reveal what our hearts have been carrying. Stress, frustration, and worry have a way of showing up in our conversations, especially with the people we love most.
Colossians 4:6 reminds us that our conversations should be full of grace. And sometimes, we need the Holy Spirit to help us recognize when our tone has become sharper than our hearts intended.
Let’s pray.
Holy Spirit, would You search my heart? Reveal where my words have been shaped by impatience, frustration, or pride. Help me recognize when I need to listen instead of speak, extend grace instead of react, and apologize when I’ve gotten it wrong. Teach me to speak truth with gentleness and love. May the words of my mouth honor You and encourage the people You’ve placed in my life. Amen.
Spend a moment asking the Lord to bring to mind any relationship or conversation that needs His attention. Pray specifically over that person and ask for wisdom in how you respond.
Before You Leave the Table
Friend, I hope these few moments have reminded you that prayer belongs in every part of our lives. The big decisions, the little frustrations, the relationships we’re navigating, and the ordinary days that seem to fly by.
And if you’re sitting there wondering whether your prayers are enough, remember Romans 8:26. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. What a gift that we can come before our Father, knowing He hears us.
My prayer is that you’ll continue bringing these things before Him throughout your week. And if you’d like more guidance, The Prayer Table book walks through additional areas of life with Scripture, teaching, and prayer prompts to help you draw near to the Lord.
