Lately, I haven’t been able to shake this thought…
Somebody’s gotta say something.
I’ve realized that so much of my silence hasn’t come from a lack of love. It’s come from fear. Fear of imposing. Fear of making things awkward. Fear of saying the wrong thing. Fear of what people might think. But then I stop and ask myself…
What am I trying to protect? My reputation? My comfort? My approval?
The more I’ve prayed about it, the more I keep coming back to Proverbs 29:25:
“The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”
I wonder how often I’ve mistaken wisdom for fear… or silence for love… when really, I’ve just been protecting myself.
Meanwhile, we’re surrounded by people carrying burdens, searching for hope, and wondering if there’s more. I think we sometimes assume they don’t want to hear about Jesus. But maybe they’re not waiting for a pastor they’ve never met, another link to click, or another invitation to church. Maybe they’re waiting for someone they know and trust to sit across from them and tell them where their hope comes from.
Jesus didn’t only tell us to invite people to church. He told us to go and share the good news.
This isn’t a finger pointed at anyone else. It’s a prayer I’ve been praying over my own heart.
Lord, free me from the fear of man. Give me eyes to see the people You’ve placed in front of me. Give me wisdom to know when to speak. Give me love that is gentle. And when the moment comes… Give me courage not to stay silent. Amen.
And maybe I’m not the only one who has felt this tension. Maybe some of us are ready to stop protecting the things that will not last and start speaking more freely about the hope that will.
Because somebody’s gotta say something.
Maybe, by His grace, that somebody can be us.
