The Sound Mind Commission

Living Anchored and Free in a World That Feeds You Fear

What if we could step off the hamster wheel of anxiety and finally live with a steady, anchored mind?

Last spring, the kids and I started a Bible study on the heart…and like most things in my life, it trickled into summer. Because let’s be honest, I’m a serial not-finisher. One of the study days focused on fear, and the verse that really landed with both me and my daughter was 2 Timothy 1:7:

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.”

The study invited us to write the verse out, and when I did, something about the phrase sound mind practically leapt off the page. I paused. Out of all the words that could have been used as an antidote to fear, why that one?

Why not courage? Strength? Trust? I could think of so many better pairings for power and love. But God chose “sound mind.” Some translations say “self-discipline.” Still not the word I would have picked… so I “double-clicked” on it.

And when I tell you it unlocked something in me, I mean it.

That day, something shifted in how I understood fear. I’ve never really thought of myself as a fearful person. I’m strong. Brave. I love challenge and change. I speak up. I fight hard. I go first. Fear isn’t something I’ve associated with my personality. But what I didn’t realize is that fear isn’t always scary. Fear doesn’t always look like fear. Sometimes it wears the name anxiety or overwhelm. Sometimes it fuels control or escapism, keeping you busy, distracted, or braced for impact. Sometimes it hides behind the mask of productivity, making you believe your worth is in what you produce. It doesn’t always feel scary… it just feels like you can’t stop spinning. It sometimes it’s just a whisper…

  • What will they think of you?
  • What if I fall behind?
  • What if my kids get left behind?
  • What if I’m not enough?
  • What if this doesn’t turn out like I hoped?

Fear can feel reasonable. Responsible, even. And when you’ve spent years just trying to keep up, you don’t always recognize that the pace you’re running is fear-fueled.

Over the summer, the Lord started to peel back some of the ways I’ve been bowing to that spirit of fear. Even in choosing to live by the Spirit He has given me: power, love, and a sound mind…the enemy was quick to whisper:

  • No one will take you seriously.
  • Your family’s not going to be on board.
  • This isn’t going to work.

But here’s what I want to tell you, straight from the middle of my own process: I don’t have this figured out. But I’ve been equipped with awareness, with truth, with Scripture, and with a Spirit-led reset.

And I’m here to tell you: you have access to a sound mind too. Not someday. Now. The Spirit of God has planted it in you. It’s not something you earn. It’s something you receive. When you recognize where fear has taken root, when you surrender what’s been controlling you, when you anchor your life in His power instead of your own.

That journey led me to write everything down. And before I knew it, I had nine chapters. Eventually, I decided to turn them into a 30-Day Reset Devotional called Sound Mind: Living Anchored and Free in a World That Feeds You Fear.

This book isn’t a how-to guide.
It’s a sacred reset.

Inside Sound Mind, you’ll find honest stories, biblical truth, and practical steps to help you stop living from panic, pressure, and performance, and start living from the Spirit within you.

You don’t have to try harder. You don’t have to carry it all. But you can live freer. Anchored. Surrendered. Clear-minded and Spirit-led… even when life is loud.

Want to see what this reset really looks like?

I’ve bundled up the entire Sound Mind devotional into a free downloadable eBook for you. No fluff… just honest stories, scripture-rich teaching, reflection questions, and one small reset step each day.
