God’s strength in emotional overload
Hey, friend.
Ah… summertime.
June felt pretty manageable…mid-level speed, a little downtime, a few trips to Six Flags, a lot of baseball.
But July? Whew.
We are in full throttle.
It’s already mid-July and somehow it feels like July 1st was yesterday.
Everything’s ramping up, and fast.
And August? It’s coming in like a freight train.
Sports practices are already starting,
the school supply lists are rolling in,
we’ve got summer reading, back-to-school shopping, fees,
meet-the-teacher nights, donations, booster club emails, spirit nights…
It’s a lot.
I don’t know exactly what you’re carrying today, but if I had to guess?
Your mind feels loud.
There are a hundred tabs open up there.
And your heart? It’s tired.
Too many people needing things from you.
Too many emotions showing up at once: frustration, worry, guilt, weariness.
And even though you’re doing your best to push through:
keep smiling, hold it all together…
deep down, you kind of feel like you might break.
And I know you feel it… because I feel it too.
So if no one’s told you yet today, can I be the one to say it?
You are not weak for feeling this way.
You’re human.
You’re allowed to feel it.
There’s a verse I go back to over and over.
Psalm 61:2
“When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I.”
It doesn’t say “fix me.”
It doesn’t say “make me stronger.”
It simply says: lead me.
Because when life gets loud and your emotions flood in like a wave,
you don’t need a checklist.
You don’t need a three-step strategy.
You just need a place to land.
And friend, God is that place.
You might feel like you’re drowning in it all…
but hear me: you are not overtaken.
The waves may rise, but His strength rises higher.
He’s not asking you to carry it all.
He’s asking you to come closer.
To breathe.
To let Him carry you.
So let’s pause for a minute and pray.
Jesus,
I’m overwhelmed.
By emotions I don’t know how to name.
By people I don’t want to let down.
By things I just can’t seem to fix.
But You…
You are steady when I’m scattered.
You are calm when I’m anxious.
You are peace when I feel like I’m unraveling.
Help me stop trying to hold everything together in my own.
Lead me back to You.
Remind me…
I’m not drowning.
I’m being held.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
